Oh hi loves! Happy Monday! Its always so hard getting back into the week after such a nice easy-going weekend. Morgan and I managed to getaway to Portsmouth, New Hampshire for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We don’t get to skip town together often without the kids so we took advantage of this time together. We spent two nights in downtown Portsmouth, NH.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn which we’ve stayed at once before. It was lovely, its right where all the restaurants and shops are located so we were able to kind of bop around the town. Portsmouth is beautiful with its old brick buildings and waterfront views. Everything is in walking distance from each other whether you want. You could walk down the street and see a live band, beer/wine tasting, ice cream, or little niche spice store.
Friday night we went to Ristorante Massimo for dinner, it was beautiful inside and out. The outside seating area was like you were eating in a garden. They had pink roses and greenery everywhere and benches with little tables to sit at for a few drinks. On the inside they had a very romantic feel also. It was warm and cozy with the amber lights and warm colored furniture. It kind of had an old feel to it inside, almost like it could have been an old house with hidden passageways or something, it was beautiful. If you ever go, they have the best Pan Seared Salmon with potato puree and broccolini. It was one of the best salmon dishes I’ve ever had, 10000% recommend. Morgan had the Carbonara which is something he tends to get if on the menu, he says it was pretty good also (even thought they messed up and gave him peas haha). Would be a nice place to check out if ever in the area. I know we will make it appoint to go again the next time we’re there. What I love about Portsmouth is it’s just so easy to just stroll around and pop in and out of places, which is what we did for the rest of the evening.

Saturday we woke up to it being so beautiful and sunny. The weather when we had checked last had said it was going to be cloudy and windy so I was all for the sunshine. We got up and dressed (linking my outfit here if you want a good simple walk-the-town look) and went to our favorite coffee shop there, Cup of Joe Coffee Shop. They have the best iced coffee. Then we tried a new breakfast place that had açaí bowls and avocado toast. To be honest wasn’t the best, the music was too loud and the food I could have made myself at home.
That afternoon we had the worst lunch and drinks at the Mexican place down the street. It was so disappointing because Mexican food is one of my favorites. We ordered the buffalo chicken nachos and it was literally microwaved cheese on tortilla chips with chicken that Morgans say was worse than the Tyson microwavable chicken. On a lighter note, across the way from this Mexican restaurant there was a little spice shop called Stock + Spice that was really cute. They had all different types of spices and sauces, even had specialty popcorn as well as popcorn seasoning. We ended up getting a dry rub for chicken and a spicy honey sauce for salmon when we cook at home. I can do a post on that once we use them and let you guys now what we think.
We spent the rest of Saturday at Earth Eagle Brewings which we love. They are so nice and have a spacious outdoor seating area which was great for enjoying this unexpected beautiful day. After spending a couple hours there, we walked over to Gas Light Co. for dinner. We again spent the rest of the evening enjoying each others company walking around to different stores for a couple drinks here and there without any kids interrupting our conversations. It was the best time, I would recommend every couple with kids get away for a couple days with their significant other. It’s kind of like pressing a reset/continue button that might have been on pause without even realizing it.
Sunday wasn’t too eventful really. We grabbed Madison and Lexie early that afternoon and headed back home, back to the everyday grind but with a new recharge. It was a really nice getaway and I am so grateful to have been able to take this time with my husband and connect on the level we started with. I believe it is so important to take that time for your marriage. To make an effort to continue that connection that brought you together in the first place. As much as we enjoyed our time together we are really excited to be with our babies again. It’s so hard to leave them for long periods of time even if we are having a great time.
Have you ever been to Portsmouth, NH? If you have where did you stay? What’s your favorite things to do there, or places to eat?
