How To Decrease Postpartum Stress In 8 Easy Steps

Hi Loves! I want to talk to you about how you can decrease postpartum stress by using these 8 steps. Postpartum is definitely one of the hardest things to deal with when having a baby on top of all the other things thrown at you. Applying these steps to your daily routine will be a game changer in your overall mental health but also your day-to-day productivity.

Decrease Postpartum Stress

Feel-Good Music

Having uplifting feel-good music playing throughout the day will not only effect your mood but potentially your kids mood too. It is just so easy to have Alexa streaming different songs to set the mood all day without even having to stop and change playlists or songs.

Go For A Walk

Taking a nice little walk or stroll and getting some fresh air does the body and mind so good! Fresh air is good for your baby too. I know for me I start to get into a weird funk when I’m inside for days on end, which is very easy to do with a newborn. Take the time to get a few minutes of fresh air even if it’s a small walk to get the mail or just sitting on your porch or deck.

Rom-Com Movie

Romantic comedy movies just put you in a whole different mood. Something about the cheesiness of the love story mixed with the awkward circumstances between characters is just so pleasing to the soul. Just laughing alone will help to destress you. Watch it with your partner, use it as quality time together and make it an at home date night.

I also like to watch movie series like Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hungry Games, or Twilight. There is nothing better than watching movies that have continuations. It allows me to continue to keep the feel-good vibe and just puts me in a great mindset.

Light Workout

Start off slow and ease into a gentle workout. Get those muscles moving again, it really does put you into a different headspace. The energy and sense of accomplishment you get after building a routine of 15 minutes a day is so motivating. There are so many free yoga classes or low impact classes on youtube for you to start out with. With there being an endless supply of workout classes you are bound to find something that fits what you’re into.

Create A Schedule

Creating schedules are so important and essential to creating a stress free day. It’s going to help you immensely to have a routine or schedule that you try to stick with each day. Yes, not every day will be the same and not every day you’ll be able to stick exactly to your schedule BUT it’s a guide to help you through the day. It’s something that is going to help keep you from becoming overwhelmed. If you have your day laid out right there in front of you, you can just take it one step at a time and plan ahead.

Take A Bath

Create some YOU time. It is so easy to get lost in feeling like you are doing it all for everybody but you need to take care of yourself too. Soak in a warm bath with lavender bath salts, or jasmine bath bombs, or whatever it is that you love. Light some candles around you, put on some soothing music, even have a glass of wine.

  • Lush is my go to store for bath essentials, they have everything and anything you’ll ever need to create the mood that you desire.

Cleaning Service

If you are in a position where you are able to, take advantage of cleaning services. The best thing ever is coming home from the hospital with your new baby to a freshly clean home. A lot of cleaning services have many different options you can choose from at different rates and worth looking into. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant expense, it’s a great option to get something checked off your to-do list with ease.

I know laundry services are becoming a big thing now that everyone is doing. There are people that come to your home and pick up your dirty laundry and bring it back clean and folded within 24 hours. If laundry is something that seems to be a never ending task for you then this is something you might want to look into in your area.

Ask For Help

This one is a big one too. Don’t wear yourself out by trying to do it all, they say it takes a village for a reason right. Delegate your tasks out to others if you can. Ask family, friends, or even your older kids to do tasks appropriate for their age. Maybe you have a young neighbor that could babysit for a couple hours. The little help you ask for can give you time to take a bath or get your nails done.
